There once was a time when I was a Coke addict. I couldn’t make it through a day without sucking down copious amounts of the brown stuff. But over time, it began to wear on me, so I kicked the habit. It’s been four months – so far, so good.

I ran across some scary stats today… In 1995, not a single state had an obesity rate over 20%. As of today, all but one has an obesity rate over 20%. And guess what? The lone holdout (Colorado) is almost there with a 19.8% obesity rate.
A little over a year ago, I decided to start running. I’ve had my share of ups and down, including some minor running injuries, but overall it’s been a very positive experience, and I’m looking forward to the future.
Have you ever wondered how many calories are in a typical Thanksgiving dinner? According to a recent report from Minnesota Public Radio, the typical Thanksgiving diner will consume 1500 or more calories. Yes, 1500! Or more!
Americans are fat. You only have to walk down the street and look around yourself to see it. Either that, or you could hop over to the CDC and look at their obesity data for yourself. It’s not a pretty picture.
Okay, time for another update. What I’ve learned over the past couple of months is that I not only need to weight myself regularly, but I also need to analyze those data. If I don’t, I get off track, and my weight loss suffers.
Over the past few months, I’ve noticed that my progress in running has followed a fairly distinct pattern. I get comfortable at a certain distance, and I’ll get a bit disappointed if I fall short of that, or elated if I go much beyond it.
Here’s a quick tip for making your baked goods a bit healthier… Replace the cooking oil (or at least a portion of it) with applesauce. Your results may vary depending on the recipe, but this works very well for things like cakes and brownies.
Time for another weight loss update… Due to an unanticipated data loss, I didn’t post an update for July, and my August update will be a bit vague. I need to get back to analyzing the data more formally, but I just haven’t had time.
