It’s mid-August, which means that I’ve been suffering through the heat and humidity down here in the Deep South for far too long. And guess what? We have at least another month of this before things will improve. With that in mind…

Earlier today, while knocking out an 8k rowing session, I saw a bit on CNN talking about people running a marathon inside Yankee stadium to raise money for cancer research. An entire marathon being run in such a small space? Fascinating.
Yesterday, I wrote about learning to breathe while swimming, and today… I swam. And no, it wasn’t my usual head-above-water freestyle. It was a legitimate, face-down, breathing-to-the-side front crawl, and it felt great.
During the summer, we spend a lot of time at the pool. In fact, our kids often go more than once a day – swim practice in the morning and just for fun in the afternoon. As for me, I’ve never been a strong swimmer, but I still love going.
Our kids wrapped up an excellent school year about two weeks ago. As usual, the year was capped off with an awards ceremony. One week ago today, I had a fantastic run. I covered 5.7 miles at a 10:10 pace, and felt like I was on top of the world. After cooling down, however, that all came crashing down. My knee right tightened up, and it hurt to bend it.

A little over a year ago, I decided to start running. I’ve had my share of ups and down, including some minor running injuries, but overall it’s been a very positive experience, and I’m looking forward to the future.
This is just a quick note to say that I ran a (somewhat) spur of the moment 5k race yesterday and had a great time. During the past month, bad weather and a bad back have limited my running, but I got myself back on track this week.
