Start Running Recap: C25K Week Six

Just a quick update to say that I completed Week Six of the Couch-to-5k running program this past Thursday. By the time Day Three rolled around, it was clear that things are getting more serious.

On Sunday, I took off at a much faster than normal pace, though I didn’t really realize it until the end of the workout. Including both the walks and runs, RunKeeper says that I covered 2.86 miles in just over 35 minutes, though my running was all at a sub-10:00/mile pace.

On Monday, I took an “off day” stroll during my son’s soccer practice, and covered 2.77 miles in about 43 minutes. This really was just a “stroll,” as I was essentially killing time, and not trying to get a workout.

On Tuesday, I wasn’t really feeling it, and I wound up covering a bit less ground (2.77 miles combined for all running/walking) as compared to Sunday despite running for a bit longer. As I finished my Tuesday workout, I was dreading Thursday.

As expected, Thursday was a bit tougher, with a 25 minute continuous run (plus a five minute walk on either end). I also changed my route, and hated it. I’ve been running laps in our neighborhood, but thought I’d head in toward town to change up the scenery a bit.

Long story short, there’s no shoulder on the main road, and there’s just not much space between the edge of the road and the ditch, on top of that, the ground is a bit overgrown. I often see people running that route, but I can’t see how they enjoy it. I sure didn’t.

Anyway… I wound up covering 2.95 miles (25 minute run + the warmup and cool down). I’m definitely getting closer to the 5k range. It’ll be interesting to see how Week Seven goes, as I’ll be repeating that same 25 minute run each day.
