Welcome to the first of nine weekly recaps. If you’re doing the C25K running program (and no matter what week you’re in), I invite you to chime in with a progress report in the comments. And now… The recap.
Monday: It was a cool (even chilly) morning, and my first workout went great. My lower back was a bit tight from rowing 10k the night before, but I’m already looking forward to a bigger challenge. The only hiccup was that I though I lost my house key while on the road. Turns out I was just so anxious to start that I left it in the front door! Oh, and the podcast was great.
Wednesday: Another beautiful morning. A bit warmer than Monday, and headed to the mid-70s this afternoon. As I ran, I noticed that the cherry blossoms were at the brink of opening. I know this sounds great to many of you in colder climates, but we pay for it in the summer. I’m in the midst of pulling our taxes together, but will try to squeeze in another (non-running) workout this evening.
Friday: The cherry blossoms in our front yard were in full bloom, and my workout was a breeze. The road was damp from overnight rain, but the clouds were burning off and the temperature was perfect. At the conclusion of this workout, I promptly deleted the first podcast from my iPhone. Bring on Week Two!
Saturday (bonus!): Earlier today, I found myself at the kids’ soccer practice with nothing better to do, so I decided to do the first workout of Week Two. I’m still planning on doing all three days of Week Two during the upcoming week, but I couldn’t resist forging ahead today instead of sitting on my butt waiting for the kids to finish up their practice.
Thoughts on my first week as a runner
All week long I felt as if I could do more, but I maintained discipline and stuck to the program. While I did jump straight into Week Two today (Saturday), and will likely head upstairs for a bit of rowing this evening, I’ll be resting on Sunday. I’ll then complete Week Two in its entirety on M/W/F of the upcoming week. So far, so good. No aches, pains, or sore muscles, and no issues with boredom.
Update: Just rowed a personal best 10km — a day of rest is definitely in order.

nice work fitman! Keep it going!
Great job getting started!!
Do you use/know about foam rollers? If not, I would very highly recommend looking into one and how to use it to help prevent injury. (Feel free to email me and I can give you an overview of them, if you want.)
I loved week one, and I have never liked running. I’m not sure if it’s because I have a program all laid out for me, or because the program breaks me in slow with the whole walk/run thing… but I am thoroughly enjoying the workouts and truly looking forward to them.
Keep it up! I’m glad you’re being sensible about sticking to the order, especially in the beginning.
