And… Done. I’ve made it through Week Nine of the Couch-to-5k running program, and my first 5k is actually tomorrow (Memorial Day) morning. This past week went quite well, and I deviated a bit from the program to get myself ready for the race.
For starters, I ran my first (unofficial) 5k back on Saturday. I clocked in at 34:24, but I later learned that my route was actually a bit more than 5k. Oh well, better more than less.
On Monday, I went out for 3.5 miles and felt great, though I had a bit of tightness in my left calf as my run wore on. I clocked in at 37:45, which works out to a 10:44 pace. I also checked my 5k split and came in around 33:30.
On Wednesday, I once again went out for 3.5 miles but didn’t feel as good. I had the same tightness in my left calf, and what felt like my piriformis (also on the left) felt tight and a bit achy. I thus stopped midway for about a minute of extra stretching, and then finished in a total of 38:52.
Finally, on Friday I went out for a 5k tuneup. I felt reasonably good during the run, and finished right at 34:00. My calf and piriformis felt fine throughout, probably because I spent extra time warming them up an stretching them before my run. I also worked on them with the foam roller during the week.
And that’s all she wrote! I took yesterday and today off, and will be up bright and early to run my first 5k race in the morning.
