Hip Pain From Running

by FitMan on April 30, 2010 · 0 comments

As I’ve started running slightly longer distances, I’ve noticed some hip soreness. It’s centered around the top of the femur (a.k.a., the greater trochanter), and really strikes me as little more than “normal” muscle soreness, especially since I’m just getting into the groove.

While I guess it’s possible that it could be something like iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS), I kind of doubt it. Regardless, I’ll be keeping an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t develop into something more severe.

To all you runners out there… Did you experience something similar when you first started running? If so, how long did it last? And how did you deal with it?

Update: The pain’s gotten worse, so I decided to buy new running shoes. Hopefully this helps.

Update 2: Looks like it was being cause by a tight IT band.
