This is just a quick note to say that I ran ca. 2.5 (relatively) pain-free miles in about 25 minutes this afternoon. It took a week of rest, heat, foam rolling, stretching, ice, and new running shoes, but I think (hope!) that I’ve conquered my hip pain.
I still have a bit of a dull ache — really more of an “awareness” than pain — in my left hip, but I was able to run without aggravating it further. In fact, I took my twelve year old son along and, despite a ton of trash talking on his part, he ended up lagging behind by the time we finished.
We started out with a 10 minute warmup walk (twice my usual) followed by a good bit of stretching to loosen things up. We then took off on our run, during which I focused on shortening my strides a bit. When we finished up, I hopped on the foam roller and then finished by stretching and then icing.
Hopefully things will continue to improve. We’ll see how I feel in the morning…

Great news, good to hear!
Congrats!
Shorter strides = good idea!
Okay, it’s morning. Overall, I have a bit of muscle soreness in my legs, but nothing major. I guess that’s to be expected after a weeklong layoff. My hip is a bit more tender than it was, but certainly tolerable (at least in everyday life), especially compared to last week.
My unsolicited advice: keep doing what you were doing last week, and when it’s not tender, go out again.
