My First (Unofficial) 5k Run

by mike on May 23, 2010 · 6 comments

This is just a quick note to say that yesterday, after having completed Week Eight of the Couch-to-5k running program, I went out and ran 5k. According to RunKeeper, I covered 3.11 miles in 34:24, which works out to 11:04/mile. Not as fast as I had hoped, but I’m still happy — I’ll take what I can get.

In reality, I think I may have actually run a bit farther, as I suspect that RunKeeper has been underestimating my mileage (more on this in a separate post). If that’s the case, great. My first real 5k is just over a week away, and I’d love it if my training runs have actually been (slightly) longer than I thought.

Anyway, here’s a snapshot of the RunKeeper screen at the end of my run:

Thats great for a first 5k! I’m trying to beat my time by 2 minutes for my next unofficial 5k before I begin training for my first official 10k. Should be fun!

Looking forward to hearing about the “real” results! I’m running about the same speed you are now, but my best time was 29:58. I’m working back towards that…

Good stuff. How do you like that app? Do you find it accurate?
