Have you gotten your swine flu shot yet? I haven’t, though I did get FluMist for the seasonal flu. Like many, I haven’t even had the option of getting vaccinated against the swine flu, so… Maybe a better question would be: if the swine flu vaccine was offered to you, would you take it?
Over the last several months, there have been all kinds of concerns over the fact that the swine flu vaccine was rushed to market. This despite the fact that the underlying vaccine production process is reportedly the same as for seasonal flu. So is it safe?
Well, just this week US health officials came out with an announcement that the swine flu vaccine is safe. In fact, by mid-November about 22 million Americans had been vaccinated and there were just 3200 reports of possible (mostly minor) side effects.
Of course, this news comes on the heels of Canadian officials being warned not to use a batch of 170,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine due to a higher than expected (albeit still quite low) rate of allergic reactions.
What do you think? Is the swine flu vaccine safe?
